Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. The PNG is decoded and re-encoded to WebP entirely in your browser using the Canvas API — nothing is ever sent to a server.
What happens to transparency?
WebP supports alpha transparency, so a transparent PNG converts cleanly with no white or black matte added.
Will I lose quality?
WebP uses lossy compression by default, so there is a small tradeoff. The quality slider lets you balance file size against fidelity — higher settings are visually indistinguishable from the original for most photos.
Does this work for screenshots and graphics too?
Yes. WebP tends to compress photos the most, but screenshots and flat-color graphics shrink a lot as well.
